Electrical Engineer $143 000 - $129 000 free time?
In this role, you’ll be using SAP to control upgrade projects and for plant maintenance. Project work will include the likes of testing, installation and commissioning of several Boiler Switchboards of various voltages, the replacement of 100MVA Transformers during plant shutdowns, and several LV, MV, and HV switchgear replacement projects, including design review, testing, installation and commissioning work. In a support function to the Reliability Department, you’ll develop and implement equipment maintenance and reliability-centred maintenance strategies.
This role is FIFO, which means you don’t need to worry about being made to live in a dumpy house because that’s the only one the company has available – you choose the quality of your permanent city accommodation; there is a distinct separation between work and home, so you can be sure work won’t encroach into your private time; and you have lots of free time to pursue other activities and goals during your time off that are not accessible to people who work standard 5-day weeks. Because the company has a number of sites within Australia, staff are quite mobile and internal promotions between sites frequent.
Needed for the role are a bachelor of electrical engineering and at least five years experience in electrical engineering. You need to have had previous work experience in mining or minerals processing.

Senior Electrical Engineer $155 000 - $138 000
This is a broad-ranging, autonomous role where you will be the most senior electrical engineer on site. Improve your experience across areas as diverse process control, power distribution, and telecommunications. Leading a team of electricians and electrical engineers, you can choose to busy yourself mostly with process control improvement works for plant equipment, such as the thickeners and mills, or focus more on the site’s electrical distribution system and upgrades to its HV cables and transformers.
It’s an excellent job for an engineer wanting to take on the first senior/management position, because, although it’s a team-leader role, you don’t need to have any previous senior experience. Aside from all the usuals (car, subsidized accommodation and utilities, etc), the real draw card is the location. Not just a typical mining town, this is also a major tourist destination, with nearby national parks and wildlife reserves providing plenty of interest.
To be considered for the role you must have a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and 5+ years experience in mining or heavy industry, with a working knowledge of LV/HV standards and process control.

Electrical Engineer $135 000 - $118 000 need more experience?
Manage capital and revenue projects for new plant installations, upgrades, and repairs, up the value of $1 million. Improve your SAP skills by using it for both project management and maintenance planning. Assets you’ll be responsible for include AC and DC variable speed drives, high voltage reticulation systems, motors and other associated control equipment, amongst others.
The variety of equipment on this large mining operation, some of which is mentioned above, means you will be exposed to equipment you’ve never come across for you, giving you that all-important experience.
The Senior Electrical Engineer on site is truly senior (not in age, but in the fact that he has about 10 years site experience, which is a lot more than can be said for senior engineers on a lot of sites at the moment) and will give you the training and support you need at your level.
To be considered for the job, you need a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and four years experience in mining or heavy industry.

Electrical Engineer $131 000 - $124 000 Helping your future career choices?
As a member of the Electrical team for Services and Infrastructure on site, design, install, and test substation protection systems, drives supply systems, and potentially even HV substations. Whilst a large proportion of you work will focus on the power network, there will be some maintenance and project work involving crushers, grinders, stackers and conveyors, and through this you’ll become familiar with the site’s general instrumentation and control. Other duties are HV switching and ensuring compliance with Australian standards.

Electrical Project Engineer $145 000 - $123 000 Living by the sea?
Work for a major mining house with a multi-million dollar expansion planned for the next few years. The projects you will be involved in will be focused on new developments and expansions, continuous improvement, and of course, trouble shooting. Project work will include replacing an existing corroded 33kV cable between two sites; installation and commissioning of a new 500kW VS Drive during a planned shutdown; and the testing (FAT & SAT), installation and commissioning of a new 11kV and 6.6kV Switchboard.
This position is residential in a mid-sized coastal town that offers excellent fishing and whale-watching, and is located in close proximity to a number of national parks. The mining house, one of the diversified resources world leaders, has a strong culture of internal promotion. Because of the mining boom, senior roles come up regularly and, as promotion of present employees is preferred over employment of outsiders, people progress through the ranks quickly – just as you will.
To progress to interview, you need to hold a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) and have had between three and five years post graduate experience, ideally at a top-class mining company or in some sort of heavy industry.

Electrical Engineer $137 000 - $ 123 000 Residential
Not happy with the politics on site? Safety standards on site not high enough? Bound by excessive red tape? Frankly sick and tired of the people you work with? Sounds like it’s time for a change.
This electrical role sees you doing a variety of work, including power systems and instrumentation maintenance, projects and design. You’ll have responsibility for HV SCADA System design; feasibility studies for the installation of a PLC/HMI power distribution monitoring system; and chairing Situation Analysis, Problem Analysis, and Potential Problem Analysis meetings for plant process issues. There’s a multi-million dollar site upgrade over the next couple of years, so you’ll be providing support to the project management team and later managing significant projects yourself.
Clearly, the job provides broad experience and will allow you to pursue a number of different future career specialities, such as project management, control systems engineering, or power engineering. Combine this with a residential location in a big town near to the sea, and you will realize (unless you’re a complete idiot) that this is an unusual opportunity that should be carefully considered if you are needing a change.
You’ll need to have a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (trade qualifications only are insufficient) and at least three years experience in electrical engineering in a mining or heavy industry environment.
